Statement on Trump’s Decision to Suspend Passport Applications Seeking Sex-Marker Changes
I am outraged by the Trump Administration’s decision to suspend passport applications that seek changes to sex markers. This harmful policy is an assault on our trans and nonbinary community members and seeks to erase them.
Denying people the ability to reflect their true identity on a government document is cruel and places them at greater risk of discrimination and violence.
We cannot tolerate policies that dehumanize members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Here in Rochester, we are committed to ensuring our city is inclusive and that everyone, regardless of their gender identity, has the freedom to live authentically. I stand with Monroe County Clerk Jamie Romeo, Brighton Town Clerk Daniel Aman, and all local advocates in calling for this decision to be reversed.
This is about dignity, safety, and the fundamental rights of our community members.
